Collages

This series of 30 collages began from card catalog cards that were gifted to me from St. Mary’s College of Maryland library. I started painting them in 2024 with light washes, and then they became layered with other marks and media. I brought a handful over to Ireland with me thinking I would continue my daily drawing series. I ended up reading a book that was a reference guide for symbols.I began to copy some of the symbols, as a way of making a gesture. The gestures became symbols, some documented, used before, and some that I made up. The symbols like the card catalog cards seem of the past. At the same time, I was going on long walks in the Burren National Park, and started doing sketches of the stones. I used cardboard and plaster to hold each collage, mimicking the look of the stones that line the fences. Each collage is a page in a larger Table of Contents.
